The WTA Elite Trophy<\/a> is a year end women’s tennis tournament for players who have just missed out on qualifying for the WTA Finals<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tournament was first played in 2015, with Venus Williams<\/a> winning the singles event and Liang Chen and Wang Yafan<\/strong> winning the doubles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 2015 to 2019, the tournament was held in Zhuhai, China, with no tournament being held in 2020, 2021, and 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dates<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The 2023 edition of the WTA’s Elite Trophy was held from Tuesday, the 24th to Sunday, the 28th of October 2023<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2023 tournament was held in the same week as the Swiss Indoors<\/a> in Basel and the Erste Bank Open<\/a> in Vienna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Format<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the singles, the 12 players were split into four groups of three, with each player playing the other two players in their group once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The winner of each group qualified for the semifinals, with the winner of each semifinal meeting in the final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Group matches were played over four days (Tuesday-Friday), with the semifinals being held on Saturday and the final on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the doubles, the six teams were split into two groups of three, with the winner of each group meeting in the final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Prize Money and Points<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      The total prize money fund for the 2023 WTA Elite Trophy was approximately $2,400,000<\/strong> with the below amounts being paid out to singles players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      In terms of ranking points, singles players had the opportunity to win up to 700 WTA points if were undefeated throughout the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      A singles player won between $50,000 and $220,000 in the group stage depending on their results, with a losing semifinalist winning an additional $17,000<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The winner of the singles in 2023 won an additional $550,000<\/strong> ($365,000 + $165,000), while the losing finalist received an additional $165,000<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      An undefeated champion received a total of $770,000<\/strong> in winnings ($220,000 + $550,000).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
