The Head Radical MP and the Head Speed MP rackets are popular with intermediate to advanced players who are looking for spin friendly frames that also offer good power and control on their shots.

The Radical MP is endorsed by tennis professionals including Taylor Fritz, Diego Schwartzman, and Sloane Stephens while the Speed MP is endorsed by Jannik Sinner and Bianca Andreescu.

This article will look at the racket specs of both rackets to see how they compare to each other.

Head Radical MP vs Speed MP Comparison

For this racket comparison, we will be using the 2021 Version of the Head Radical MP (or “HRMP”) and the 2022 version of the Head Speed MP (or “HSMP”).

Head Size and Length

The head size of the Speed MP (100in) is two inches better than the Radical MP (98in) so the HSMP will have a slightly bigger sweet spot and therefore be more forgiving than the HRMP.

Both rackets have a 27in racket length.

Strung Weight, Swing Weight, and Balance

The HRMP (318g) has a slightly heavier strung weight when compared with the HRMP (315g) but the difference isn’t huge.

Similarly, the HRMP (326g) is 3g heavier than the HSMP (323g) in terms of swing weight.

As both rackets have a head light balance of 4pts HL and similar strung/swing weights, this means that they will have a similar level of maneuverability.

Stiffness Rating

The HRMP (65) has a higher stiffness rating when compared with the HSMP (62) with both rackets being relatively arm-friendly to play with.

Beam Width

The HRMP has a slightly thinner beam width (20mm / 23mm / 21mm) when compared with the HSMP (23mm / 23mm / 23mm) so you will find it easier to generate power with the HSMP.

Power

Both of these tennis rackets are low to medium powered frames with the HSMP being the more powerful of the two rackets.

String Pattern

Both the HRMP and the HSMP have a 16×19 string pattern so if you like hitting your groundstrokes with lots of topspin, you will enjoy playing with this string pattern.

Design

I definitely prefer the design of the HSMP over the HRMP as I am not a big fan of the orange color on the HRMP racket.

Availability

Both of these tennis rackets are available to buy on online shops such as Tennis Express, Tennis Warehouse, and Tennis-Point.

Racket Recommendations

In my opinion, beginner tennis players would be better off going for a lighter oversized tennis racket like the Wilson Clash 108 rather than going with either of these two tennis rackets as I think you need good technique and a full swing to get the most out of these tennis rackets.

The HRMP and HSMP are good options when it comes to intermediate to advanced tennis players, as they aren’t too heavy and they offer a good balance between power, spin, and control.

As they have similar racket specs, I think it would be a good idea to demo both of these tennis rackets before deciding which one you will buy.
