The first WTA tournament in Linz was played in 1987 with Barbara Paulus winning the singles and Petra Hentschl and Eva-Maria Schürhoff winning the doubles.

The 2023 WTA Linz Open tennis tournament will be held from the 5th to the 12th of February 2023, with the tournament being played a week after the end of the 2023 Australian Open.
The 2023 tournament will be played in the same week as the tournaments in Abu Dhabi, Montpellier, Dallas, and Cordoba.
