The Kooyong Classic is an exhibition tennis tournament that is played on outdoor hard courts in Melbourne, Australia.
The Kooyong tournament is usually played in the week before the start of the Australian Open with many players using the exhibition event as a warm up ahead of the first grand slam of the year.

When does the tournament start?
The 2023 Kooyong Classic tennis tournament will be held from the 10th to the 12th of January 2023, with the tournament being played in the same week as the Adelaide and Hobart International events in Australia, and the ASB Classic in New Zealand.

The current world number 1 Carlos Alcaraz was due to headline the men’s event but unfortunately, he had to pull out before the start of the event due to injury (see tweet below).

Women’s Singles
Donna Vekic, Kimberly Birrell, and Linda Fruhvirtova will play in the women’s singles event.
Format
The ten players will each play three games over the three days with the four winners from the first four matches on day 1, proceeding to the semifinals, while the four losing players go into a playoff draw.
Day 2 sees the two semifinals and the two playoff matches being played.
On day 3, The two losing semifinalists play each other to determine who finishes 3rd/4th, while the two playoff match winners play for 5th/6th place and the two losing playoff match players play for the 7th/8th place.
The last match on day 3 will be the singles final which will see the two winning semifinalists compete against each other for the title.
