Best Oversized Tennis Rackets

Oversized tennis rackets are a popular choice for beginners and senior players who want a racket with a big sweet spot and lots of power.

If you are in a hurry and you just want to know which oversized racket is the best, then I recommend the Wilson Clash 108 as it offers a good balance of power, spin, and control, while also being a very arm friendly frame to play with.

If you want to learn what exactly an oversize racket is and the pros and cons of using one, then continue reading.

I have also listed my top five recommendations for the best oversized rackets to buy in 2023.

Best Oversized Tennis Rackets

What is an Oversized Tennis Racket?

I would define an oversized tennis racket as any frame that has a head size greater than the standard 100 inches.

Oversized rackets are usually aimed at players who have not yet developed a full swing and need help generating power on their shots.

Some regard frames with a head size between 100 and 105 to be mid plus frames but in my eyes, anything over the standard 100 inches should be considered oversized.

Pros and Cons of using an Oversized Racket

Pros

  • Helps players generate more power on their shots (great for beginners)
  • Oversized frames have big sweet spots so they are more forgiving on off center shots
  • They can absorb more of the impact from hitting shots so oversized frames can be more arm friendly than other stiffer options.
  • Can be very effective from the baseline, especially if you have a two handed backhand.

Cons

  • Oversized frames are harder to control so you may find yourself overhitting
  • They are also less maneuverable at the net due to their size
  • You may also find it harder to control your volleys at the net as there is often a trampoline effect from your racket
  • They are less suited to players who hit with a one handed backhand.

5 Best Oversized Tennis Rackets

The below picks are in no particular order but if you are a beginner then I would recommend going with the Wilson Clash 108.

Wilson Clash 108

Wilson Clash 108

Like many other oversized rackets, the Wilson Clash 108 provides plenty of easy power but I was surprised by how much control you get.

The control isn’t as good as more advanced frames like the Pro Staff 97 but it definitely had the best control out of all the oversized frames on this list.

On my baseline groundstrokes, I was able to get good depth and power on my shots with the Clash 108 and it was also very forgiving on any off center shots that I hit.

As you would expect from an oversized frame, the Clash 108 provided tons of power on your serve.

As I usually play with a Wilson Clash 98, I did have to adjust my serve so I could get my serves in but this was the case with all the rackets on this list.

At the net, I found the Clash 108 was good for volleys above the net height but it did not excel at those more delicate touch shots from below the net.

Wilson Blade 104

Wilson Blade 104 v8

Up until recently, the Wilson Blade 104 was the tennis racket used by Serena Williams and is still used by her sister Venus.

This goes to show that even some of the pros use an oversized frame and it is not just for beginners and older players.

The Wilson Blade 104 is on the heavier side of rackets on this list so I definitely wouldn’t recommend this frame to absolute beginners but if you are an intermediate to advanced player looking for a good oversized racket to use, then the Blade 104 is one of your best options.

The Blade 104 is best suited to players who like to play from the baseline and have a two handed backhand as the racket is designed to excel in these areas.

If you are an all court player or a net rusher then the Blade 104 is probably not going to be the right option for you.

Babolat Pure Drive 107

Babolat Pure Drive 107 2021

The Babolat Pure Drive 107 offers many of the benefits of the standard 100in Pure Drive but with an oversized head.

The Pure Drive 107 is a good option for beginners and even some intermediate players looking for a solid frame that gives tons of power and a big sweet spot.

The racket has a slightly longer length than the standard 27 inches but the difference isn’t enough to feel any real difference from a standard length racket.

The racket is also one of the heavier rackets on this list, coming in at 301g unstrung.

Like the regular 100in Pure Drive, the Pure Drive 107 is a relatively stiff racket so players who suffer from tennis elbow or have had arm issues in the past may be better off going for an oversize tennis racket that is more arm friendly like the Wilson Clash 108.

The Ezone 105 is also a good option for doubles as it provides good power, control, and spin at the net.

Overall, the Yonex EZONE 105 is a very solid racket and a good option for players who love the EZONE 98 but are looking for a lighter racket.

HEAD Microgel Radical Oversize

HEAD Microgel Radical Oversize

The last racket on our list (HEAD Microgel Radical Oversize) is probably the best option if you want a budget oversize racket that still provides good specs and playability as you should be able to purchase the racket for less than S100 dollars (excluding postage costs).

The Microgel Radical Oversize is the lightest racket on our list so it will be easy to swing and generate easy power on your shots.

It also has a low stiffness rating of 56 which should mean it is an arm-friendly racket to hit with.

Unlike the other oversize rackets on this list, it has an 18 x 19 string pattern rather than a 16 x 19 string pattern so this should add a little bit more control on your shots which is good when playing with an oversized frame.
